City highlights Bike Tour Amsterdam

• The City Bike Tour is suitable for 12 years and above so long as you can ride a bike confidently, are used to city traffic and don’t mind hearing about the vices of Amsterdam.
• The city bike tour is 10 km long (6-7 miles) and lasts +/- 2.5 to 3 hours.
• Group size: Maximum 15 people in one group.
• We will provide a good Dutch Bicycle and raingear if necessary. Helmets are not required.
• Time: The tour starts at 10.30 AM or 2 pm (14.00). Make sure to be at least 10 minutes in advance at the meeting point.

Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Our bike tours often fill up quickly, especially between April and September and during weekends or public holidays. Walk in bookings are possible but not guaranteed. Advance bookings also allow us to prepare the correct number of bikes in the right sizes.

The public City Bike Tour is guided in English by a local guide. We also have tours in Dutch and German.

Private tours can often be arranged in other languages too like Spanish, French or Portuguese. Ask for the options. 

Most bookings allow free changes or cancellation up to a set number of hours before the tour. The exact policy depends on the booking channel, when booked directly with trip protection you can cancel until 1 minute before the start of the tour.

Changing to another time on the same day is usually possible as long as there is space and the request comes early enough.

The meeting point for this tour is near Amsterdam Central Station, at Oosterdoksstraat 106. It is easy to reach via train, tram, metro, ferry, or on foot from the historic centre. 

Arriving early gives you time to adjust the saddle height and get comfortable with your bike.

Yes. The tour returns to the same location so you can easily continue your day from a central point, whether you want to explore the city further, catch a train or enjoy a canal view café nearby.

Plan to arrive ten to fifteen minutes before departure. This allows time to check in, choose the correct bike size, adjust your seat, store any belongings and listen to the pre tour briefing about cycling rules and Amsterdam traffic.

We don’t wait longer than 5 minutes after the start of the tour. So please be on time. 

A comfortable Dutch city bike with hand brakes is included. We have multiple sizes and models so we can match you with something suitable. If you prefer a different type of bike, such as an e-bike, this is also available for an extra fee.

Helmets are optional for adults in the Netherlands and most locals cycle without them. We strongly recommend to wear one, especially if you are less experienced in city traffic. We have enough helmets to go safely through Amsterdam. 

Wear clothes that allow easy movement and shoes that stay firmly on the pedals. A small backpack or crossbody bag is useful for water, a light jacket, sunscreen, gloves in winter and a phone or camera.

Avoid loose scarves or long coats that can get caught in the wheels. Bringing a bottle of water is recommended.

The tour includes several short stops at scenic or historic spots. Each stop gives time for photos, questions and a short rest. There is no dedicated café break, but guests often buy a quick drink at a stop if time allows.

You must be able to comfortably ride a bike and maintain balance and control in a group. Amsterdam has excellent cycling infrastructure but the city is busy and requires attention, especially at junctions with trams or shared paths. If you cycle only occasionally but feel confident, you will be fine.

In case you don’t have experience, you can not join the tour for your own safety. 

Many guests join without much urban cycling experience. Guides choose calm streets and dedicated bike paths whenever possible. If you are nervous, tell your guide at the start so they can give extra support and place you in a comfortable position within the group.

Cycling is one of the main modes of transport in the Netherlands and the infrastructure is built around it. However, the city centre can feel hectic due to trams, pedestrians, scooters and other cyclists.

Your guide will explain the main traffic rules before departure, such as right of way and where to ride on wider paths. Staying alert and following the guide closely is important.

Everyone is welcome, as we also have smaller bikes available. The minimum age for this tour is twelve, since children need to be confident enough to handle city traffic and follow instructions in a group. Teenagers usually adapt quickly to Amsterdam’s cycling rhythm, while younger children are better suited to a private family tour where the route and pace can be adjusted to their needs.

The route is flat and easy paced, making it accessible for most fitness levels. There are no hills in Amsterdam. Frequent stops help maintain a relaxed rhythm.

The route will be about 10 kilometers, 6 miles in total. 

Group size varies depending on the season and time of day. On average we have 8 guests and this can be maximum of 15 guests. Groups are kept to a reasonable size so the guide can manage the group safely and answer questions.

Guides carry basic tools and will stop to help you if you have a chain slip, saddle problem, flat tire or other mechanical issue. If a bike cannot be fixed quickly, a replacement is arranged whenever possible.

Tours run in most weather conditions. Light rain is common in the Netherlands, so bringing a waterproof jacket is recommended. We also have rain jackets available.

In case of severe weather warnings, the tour may be rescheduled or cancelled for safety.

Storage options vary, so it is best to travel light. We have a limited space in the bike shop to leave your luggage. This will be on your own risk. 

For safety, take photos only during designated stops. Plus you can get fined when using your phone or a camera while cycling. Many of the best pictures come from viewpoints selected by the guide, so you will have plenty of opportunities. 

Guides are trained, experienced city cyclists with a strong knowledge of Amsterdam’s history and culture. They keep the tour safe while sharing stories, local insights and tips for the rest of your stay.
